» Brief History:
The University at Buffalo Men's Ice Hockey Program, as it
exists today, was born in 1988. Until 1988, the University
at Buffalo sponsored a varsity hockey team at the NCAA Division
I and III levels. During 1988, the University at Buffalo dropped
its NCAA Hockey Program which is why our overall program's
goal is to return the sport of hockey at the University at
Buffalo to its rightful place at the Division I level.
» League Affiliation:
The UB Men's Hockey Program is part of the American
Collegiate Hockey Association. The ACHA has been around
for many years and it provides highly-competitive college
hockey to universities who can't or won't support an official
NCAA hockey program. Currently, there are three major conferences
in ACHA Division I Hockey: Central States Collegiate Hockey
League (CSCHL), Eastern Collegiate Hockey League (ECHL) and
Eastern Collegiate Hockey Association (ECHA). The University
at Buffalo is a member of the ECHL and plays league games
against the following teams Robert MorrisUniversity, Mercyhurst College,
Syracuse University, Niagara University and University of Rochester. Our program also plays non-league
games against teams like Penn State, University of Michigan,
Rhode Island, West Virginia, Illinois, Iowa and even as far
as the University of Arizona.
» Practice Information:
To provide the best possible training and practice for our
players, the University at Buffalo established its home arena
at the Amherst Pepsi Center, complete with our very own dedicated
locker room. During the season, our team practices three to
four times a week and has full access to the University at
Buffalo weight and training rooms. On-Ice Evaluations
are held during the first few weeks of September.
» Game Information:
All home games are played at the Amherst
Pepsi Center on Friday and Saturday evenings. There are
also occasional Sunday matinee games. The Amherst Pepsi Center is directly
across Millersport Highway from UB's North Campus. As for
away games, the team travels on
deluxe motor coaches
to all
long distance games.
