UB wins first 2 home games of the second semester
UB 7 – ECC 2
UB returned back home to the Amherst Pepsi Center for the first time of the second half of their season to play Erie community college this past Friday. Buffalo opened the scoring 4 minuets into the game when defenseman Adam Koehn (Mosler) ripped a slap shot from the top of the circle past the ECC goaltender to make the score 1-0. ECC scored late in the period to tie the score going into the second intermission.
In the second Buffalo took the lead again when Howard Melcher scored on a breakaway 5 minuets into the period. ECC quickly came back to tie the score 2-2 where it remained until 30 seconds left when Brad Zwawa (Melcher, Weinstein) sent a shot right off the goal post and in to give UB the lead going into the third.
The third period was dominated all by UB with 2 goals a piece coming from Smith (Mosler) and Mosler (Smith, Murchie), (Donnley).
Goaltenders John Czaplinski and Patrick Jones were strong in net combining for 25 saves on 27 shots in the win.
UB 6 – NU 3
On Saturday night UB faced off against league rival Niagara University at the Amherst Pepsi Center. In the first period UB got on the board early with a goal coming from Weinstein (Murchie, Riley) in the first minute of play. Niagara tied making the score 1-1 going into the second intermission.
In the second Niagara scored twice to put NU up 3-1 until one second to go in the period when Smith (Murchie, Mosler) scored to make the score 3-2 going into the third.
The third period was all UB, tallying four goals from Smith (unassisted), Melcher (unassisted), Weinstein (Melcher, Magnuszewski) and Smith (Codick, Mosler) to make the final 6-3.
Goaltender John Cazplinski was solid in net making 25 saves on 28 shots for the win.
